Description of Agency types:
Primary
All Primaries should meet the following criteria:
- Be a non-profit agency and provide copy of 501(c)(3)
- Have a paid staff of at least 1 person
- Have a board of directors, oversight committee or equivalent
- Provide services for at least 1 year before inclusion
- Is non-discriminatory
Secondary
If it is a non-profit, and agency should be included here pending adherence to Primary criteria.
If agency is for-profit, it will never be eligible to be a primary and must be judged on the following criteria:
- Provides a unique service in its area
- Is non-discriminatory
- If it's a professional organization designed to include only those from a particular profession (e.g. American Federation of Television and Radio Actors [AFTRA]), it must not be discriminatory based on race, religion, age, sexual orientation, ancestry, nationality, color, gender, disability or other such criteria
- Does not consist exclusively of private practitioner(s) or therapist(s)
Self-Help
Must meet the following criteria:
- Must be non-profit, but does not have to provide copy of 501(c)(3)
- Should have regular meetings scheduled
- Can be new
- Can be professionally facilitated or not
- Is non-discriminatory
If a Self-Help is a part of a Primary or Secondary agency, it should be listed as a separate entity due to its more specialized services.
